We Do Like To Be Besides The Seaside

Saturday 15th July - Oh We Do Like To Be Besides The Seaside.

At 9am on Saturday 15July 7 walkers met at Birk Brow for a 20 mile walk. Vince, the walk leader, could not do the walk as he had a leg injury, so I stepped in and lead it.

We set off down Jenny Frisk Road to Boosbeck and then through Skelton and on to Saltburn where we stopped for our first break. The weather forecast was for rain and that is what it did on this section of the walk.

We walked through the valley gardens to the coast. Then up and over Warsett Hill and passed the old Blower house to Skinningrove where we met Vince who had prepared a hot drink for us.

At 1pm we stopped for our lunch break in Skinningrove before heading for Liverton Mines and then on to Liverton. At this point we decided to walk the country lane to Moorsholm and back to Birk Brow.

Again on this section Vince met us with hot drinks, he also suggested that he could shuttle the group along the Whitby road back to the start as this would be an unsafe road to walk due to the speed of the traffic. This is what we did, all getting back to Birk Brow just before 5pm after walking approximately 16 miles.

The section between Skinningrove and Liverton gave us problems due to the paths being over grown and having no waymarks. Also the corn fields that we walked around had overgrown the paths. In this section it was very helpful that the group worked as a team in the map reading.

I would like to thank Vince who supplied the hot drinks and transport and all who came on the walk for their help in the route finding.
