A Wander Around Wensleydale

A Wander Around Wensleydale - Saturday 25th March

A lovely bright day to start the wander for 12 early risers at 8.30 from the car park at Leyburn.  This number increased to 14 shortly after when Pat and Vince who had been delayed on their journey caught up with us.

We continued to Preston and down to the Bolton Hall Estate to Lords Bridge for a quick drink, whereby the official leader and 4 others turned left for the shorter nine mile route, due to long term injuries .  The rest of the group turned right across fields to West Witton. We continued uphill to eventually join the road that leads to the gallops, except Gordon did a quick right turn to have a look at the Forbidden Corner at Tupgill Park, where we had lunch by a lovely small lake, before rejoined the gallops, with several horses in training passing us.

Just before Middleham we cut across country to Hullo Bridge and continuing east we arrived at the delightful village of East Witton, where Mary who had cut off for the short walk earlier, appeared in her car.  We continued to Coverbridge and onto Spennythorne, where on the recce there was major flooding.  Luckily the water had drained away during the week so we didn't have to paddle,  It was then a short uphill walk back to Leyburn and to the tea room for coffee, tea and scones.

It was nice to see one or two people joining us from other groups and hope they will join us again.
