24 or 13 miles circular challenge event via forestry moorland and road including Guisborough Moor and Roseberry Topping.

Cleveland LDWA have hosted the event for many years, it takes place in August each year and starts from Guisborough Rugby Club,  Currently there is a free car park (weekends only) at Belmont House, GR  NZ612157. This is in Spring Wood Road, (signed at Traffic Lights) off Rectory Lane, only a short walk to the Rugby Club.  There are also various P/D car parks available in Rectory Lane.

The event is open to both runners and walkers.

Badge, certificate and meal are provided at the finish.

Both the 24 and 13 miles route take the same route to begin with a bucket drop at Butt Lane Top then on to a checkpoint at Highcliffe Nab for wonderful views across Guisborough towards the coast, then its across the moor to Percy Rigg (self clip) before dropping down to Kildale Hall checkpoint,  this is were the two routes split:

  • 24mile route going uphill towards Little Kildale and Warren Farm before dropping down to a refreshment checkpoint at Hob Hole, its  then uphill to a self clip at John Breckon Road, over Little Hograh Moor and Great Hograh Moor to drop down to pass through Baysdale Abbey, then uphill to reach the Cleveland Way and the next checkpoint at the cattle grid before dropping down to Kildale Village, where a refreshment checkpoint is a welcome sight. Now past the cafe and uphill past Bankside Farm to the self clip at Capt Cooks monument, then down to the to the checkpoint at Gribdale Gate and up onto the moor at the other side before reaching the self clip at Gate, then going away from Roseberry Topping to reach the next checkpoint at Hanging Stone, double back after this to climb to the checkpoint at Roseberry Topping, (take time to admire the views) before returning to Guisborough Rugby Club via Hutton Gate and disused railway.

  • 13mile route on reaching Kildale Hall checkpoint the route then goes past the Hall to reach Kildale Village and a refreshment checkpoint. Now past the cafe and uphill past Bankside Farm to the self clip at Capt Cooks monument, then down to the to the checkpoint at Gribdale Gate and up onto the moor at the other side before reaching the self clip at Gate, then going away from Roseberry Topping to reach the next checkpoint at Hanging Stone, from here the route drops down through the woods, then on to Hutton Gate and  the disused railway to return to Guisborough Rugby Club.
