Marshals' walk route

The marshals' walk will take place on the Early Spring Bank Holiday, from Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May 2016. It is only open to LDWA members who will marshal the main event. There are minor differences between the marshals' route and the main event route:

  • The walk starts and finishes at the Upwey & Broadwey Memorial Hall, Victoria Avenue, Upwey, Weymouth DT3 5NG. Grid reference SY670840.
  • The checkpoint at Briantspuddle on the main event is replaced with a checkpoint at Tolpuddle.
  • There is no checkpoint at Dewlish, but a full checkpoint at Milton Abbas.
  • Paragraph numbering and small bits of the description differ from the main event in legs 2-4. This is because the checkpoints at the end of legs 2 and 3 are in different locations.
  • There is no drinks stop at Corton, with resulting changes to the route description.
  • The route is changed to accommodate these differences. It's very slightly shorter than the main event (but still more than 100 miles!)

The recce version of the route description for the marshals’ event is now available at Issue 2.1.See the main event route description page for details of the changes from version 2.

Download the latest version 2.1 here. If you are going to recce the route, look at the advice for recceing the main route.

We are not publishing GPX files for the marshals' route as the marshals' route track is the same as that of the main event except at the start and finish. The GPX files for the main event are here and the route viewer for the main event here.

The current recce version is only made available in PDF to preserve the integrity of the document but the final version is available in MS Word as well as PDF. This final version, with GPX files, is now available to entrants only and includes clipper points. These may differ from the clipper points on the main event. Only the final version, available to entrants only, describes permissive sections over private land. Please do not walk or recce these permissive sections before the event.
