Vermuyden Group was founded in 1986 and is based in South Yorkshire but also has active members in surrounding counties including North Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and West Yorkshire.
Group Meetings take place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the "Star Inn" Barnby Dun, Doncaster commencing at around 8.00 pm. Members and non members are welcome to attend.
Group Walks are arranged on a monthly basis and we aim to make our walks programme varied with both local and more distant start venues. Our policy is to make them social rather than competetive events and we try to take account of the slower walker. We usually arrange a pub stop at lunchtime as part of this policy. All are welcome to join us!
Elsecar Skelter is our annual "challenge" event and takes place in August. We aim to make it a social event but with a competitive edge for those who do want to compete and with a route which will show some of the delights that South Yorkshire has to offer.
Challenge Walks - We issue route descriptions for the Doncastrian Way, Vermuyden Way and Bog Dodgers Way and have badges and certificates available for successful completions
Other Activities include quiz walks, weekend walking breaks and an annual supported "long walk" for Vermuyden Group members (usually around 50 miles).
