A news item from National Trails:

Is it possible to walk the whole 268 miles of the Pennine Way in a day? Yes it is! But only if you have some help. Join in the most exciting day ever on the Pennine Way when hundreds of people will be walking sections of the Trail so that between them the whole of the Pennine Way will be walked.

The Pennine Way, Britain’s oldest and best-known National Trail, is 50 years old on the 24th April. To celebrate this landmark birthday National Trails are inviting everyone to join in a mass-walking event called Walk the Way in a Day.

We’ve created 50 circular walks that between them make up the whole Trail. There’s something for everyone with some walks suitable for families and some only for the truly dedicated walker. You don’t have to complete a whole section, any walk you do on the Pennine Way on 25th April will count toward the great Walk the Way in a Day.

Anyone and everyone can take part. Join with family and friends on the 25th April and complete one of 50 circular walks that between them cover the entire 268 miles of the National Trail. The walks are stunning, covering a variety of wonderful landscapes. They offer a choice of length and difficulty so there is something for walkers of all ages and abilities.

Everyone walking one of the specially designated walking routes will be contributing to a mass effort to complete the entire 268 mile iconic Trail in one day.

There is no official signing up process for the event. All you need to do is visit the Pennine Way section of the National Trails website and select your walk. You will be able to download a map and detailed walking directions. Then let National Trails know which walk you intend to cover. You can do this via email: nationaltrails@walk.co.uk or via social media Twitter or Facebook

Anne Clark of National Trails said
“The Pennine Way holds a special place in people’s hearts, it’s a real challenge and not everyone has time or energy to tackle it in one go. The Walk the Way in a Day events gives everyone the opportunity to be part of a really special walking event, and to have a wonderful walk too.”

What better way to say Happy Birthday to one of England’s oldest and most beautiful walking routes.
