East Lancs Walk Change - Saturday 18th June

Posted on 2011-05-24

East Lancs LDWA Group have cancelled their Welsh 3000 walk on Saturday 18th June and replaced it with

'A Bit of this and a Bit of That'.

Saturday, 18th June 2011 at 08.00am prompt.

From - the layby just off the Kirkstone Pass road at Church Bridge (GR412027) on the minor road from Troutbeck, almost opposite to the start of the climb of the Garburn Pass.

Distance and ascent: About 26mls and 7000ft of climbing.

Route: Garburn pass to the crest. Join the Horseshoe by taking in Yoke, Ill Bell, and Froswick. Round the head of the valley to Mardale Ill Bell and dropping to the head of the Nan Bield Pass. Now joining the High Street Stroll - Harter Fell, Branstree, Selside Pike, Mosedale, and the Old Corpse Road to Haweswater. We will then depart from the normal Stroll route and ascend to High Street and the Beacon via Riggindale Crag. The end of the walk will descend to take in the Tongue and back to the start point.

This is a terrific route but please note the need to carry plenty of liquids. Unless we are lucky enough to find an ice-cream van at Mardale Head, there will be no opportunity to take on liquids - other than from the occasional stream.

It would be helpful, but not essential, if those hoping to do the walk would let Contact Alf Short, T: 01257 472991/ 07957562852, E: alfandpauline@talktalk.net. Parking is very limited so car sharing will be essential.
