LDWA Website Upgraded

Posted on 2010-03-22

Welcome to the upgraded LDWA website! We have made a number of improvements:

  • Mapping from Ordnance Survey is now available to:

    • help you visualise locations for events and walks
    • select and follow long distance paths and trails (LDPs)
    • see the LDPs route network in an area
    • identify group accommodation near an event (20km) or trail (5km)
    • see the trails near group accommodation (such as hostels)
    • print small extracts for personal use

  • Mapping is limited to Road Maps while we assess usage limits.
  • A new page design that makes the best use of your screen width, with a major improvement on wide-screen monitors
  • New graphic design across the site, and better facilities for added graphics
  • Easier page navigation, including better sidebar menus
  • Sorting facilities on lists to select relevant items, and expansion buttons (‘click for more…’) on longer lists
  • LDWA Local Groups’ areas are shown on a clickable UK map, each with their own basic page with a list of upcoming walks and links to their own full sites
  • Regional LDPs Summaries set all the UK’s main LDPs in context, with links to each route. There is a clickable UK LDPs regional map. E-Routes are shown on a UK map, with detail online for every component LDP
  • National Trails and Hillwalkers’ Registers now databased and easier to view
  • Online shopping is easier with separate LDWA Merchandise and Amazon sections (commission is gained for any purchases starting from any Amazon link, even unrelated items). The full range of OS maps, many useful walking books and all the many LDPs books sold by Amazon are on sale online, most discounted.
  • New members’-only facilities, such as full details of member Discounts
  • New starter pages for 100s (under Events) and the AGM (under Membership). These will be expanded for future such events. There is a 100s archive online.
  • FAQs now grouped with their main topic, eg, Membership
  • Share facilities to many social network sites and for emailing
  • A more friendly and accessible site for users with certain disabilities, with greater clarity for visually impaired users, and meeting most major web-access standards where this is practical (eg, excluding graphics)

We welcome feedback and ideas for further improvements, either in the Members’ Forum or by email to Internet. Further upgrades will be made over the coming months within this new framework.
