Mersey Way

35 km / 22 miles

Halton, Merseyside, Warrington
The Mersey Way closely follows the north bank of the river and estuary of the Mersey from Rixton, east of Warrington to Garston, Liverpool, linking Paddington Meadows and the Pickering Pasture and Speke & Garston Coastal Nature Reserves. The route in part follows the Woolston New Cut as well as the St Helens Canal between Warrington and Widnes, where it is concurrent with the Trans-Pennine Trail.

Once a filthy industrial wasteland, the Mersey Estuary is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest, rich in wildlife, including salmon, as well as a centre for walking, cycling and watersports.

Walking and cycle maps are available from Travelwise Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton
0151 330 1294. For more information, see the Mersey Basin Campaign's website link below
