A route through the hills and former slate mining valleys of north Gwynedd - the Nantlle, Gwyrfai, Padarn and Ogwen valleys - skirting the Snowdonia National Park boundary between Penygroes and Bethesda, going through many villages and passing Llanberis near the Snowdon mountain railway.
