1066 Harold's Way

161 km / 100 miles

E Sussex, Gtr London, Kent
A new 100 mile (160km) long distance footpath that follows King Harold’s epic journey from London to Senlac Hill, to the site of the Battle of Hastings, 14th October 1066. It follows using modern rights of way the route that Harold's army may have taken in their three days of marching, with camps at Rochester and Bodiam before engaging with the enemy forces. In those days this would have been a real struggle, with dense forest and downs and Harold may have used the tracks of Roman roads. The LDP route heads from Westminster Abbey east out of London to reach Rochester and goes south across Kent to reach Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey. A publication is planned for May 2013, by David Clarke and is covered on the route's website at www.1066haroldsway.co.uk and is available here from the Amazon link from the publication webpage below.
