Carrick Way

161 km / 100 miles

S Ayrshire
The Carrick Way is in development and comprises of a 100 mile circular route around the hills of North and South Carrick.

The route will be accessible from 3 railway stations - Girvan, Maybole and Barrhill.

The route provides access to a diverse range of landscapes, from forest and upland landscapes to intensive agriculture and coast.

It is the ambition of the group to make parts of the Carrick Way route accessible by summer 2007. To achieve this, signage and some minor upgrade of specific routes would be required. The group would use funding from this South Ayrshire Council to kick start the project. The Carrick Way is a circular, long distance route, around the hills of South and North Carrick. It is hoped that the route can link up with other routes and help to provide a wider choice for outdoor activities in South Ayrshire. The group hopes to attract more visitors to the area, mainly from Scotland, England and Ireland. They see this project as a positive step towards sustainable tourism and the economic benefits that follow. The Group has produced a management plan that was part funded by South Ayrshire Council £5,000, Scottish Enterprise £5,000 and Scottish National Heritage. £10,000.
