MAY 2023:
Re-alignment of the 3-mile single-carriageway stretch of the A417 between Air Balloon roundabout (SO 935161) and the Cowley roundabout (SO 949134) is scheduled to begin in the Autumn of 2023. Large parts of the existing road will be 'repurposed' into a multi-user (walkers, cyclists, horse riders) Right of Way. The Gloucestershire Way will cross the re-designated route via a new footbridge.

DECEMBER 2022 The route beside the River Severn is currently in poor condition so a diversion along roads, from SO 82448 19046 (end of footbridge crossing Severn into Gloucester) to SO 82866 20875 (the point where the path emerges onto Sandhurst Lane), may be a better option.
