The township of Howmore lies on the west coast of South Uist in an area widely covered with machair (shell sand) forming a rich soil for grass and colourful wild flowers in the summer season. There is also easy access to the long sandy beaches nearby. The hostel overlooks a ruined chapel and a burial ground of the Clan Ranald chiefs. A wonderful setting full of history.
