| Accommodation Info: | Towards the head of Ennerdale valley, one of the most beautiful, least spoilt and quietest valleys in the Lake District, sitting at the foot of Pillar and Red Pike you will find Low Gillerthwaite. An ideal base for fellwalking, classic rock climbs, bird and wildlife watching, mountain biking, orienteering (we have our own permanent course), canoeing (instruction available for groups) and environmental studies. Originally a 15th-century farmhouse, the Centre has group self-catering facilities, drying room, library of environmental books and a group lecture room. Due to its remoteness the Centre generates it's own electricity and in the evening when the generator ceases lighting is supplied by gas lamps. Vehicle access is by forest track and a BT payphone is on site (most mobiles do not work here). With 40 beds Low Gillerthwaite is an ideal base for clubs, extended family groups, school and youth groups. Video available for group leaders; more information can be found on our website. |
