Places to Stay

This section aims to help you find places to stay near walks, trails or walking events.

On this website we list accommodations covering:

Serviced accommodation, covering b&bs (bed and breakfast), guesthouses, hotels, and inns in England and Wales.

Self-catering accommodation, such as apartments, cottages and holiday homes in England and Wales.

Budget accommodation across the UK, covering hostels, camping barns, bunkhouses and campsites. These may be suitable for individuals as well as for groups.  We list establishments that cover both serviced and non-serviced options.

The serviced and self-catering accommodation is inspected and quality-assessed under the nationally recognised schemes. In England the VisitEngland scheme is called 'Quality in Tourism (QIT)' and each assessed place to stay carries a 'star-rating' under the familiar QIT Quality Assurance Rose Mark standards. VisitEngland is the independent national tourism agency in England. In Wales, the parallel scheme awarding star ratings is the Visit Wales Quality in Tourism grading. Visit Wales is the national tourism agency in Wales.

You can find suitably located places to stay using our search screens. These enable a Search for Accommodation. Alternatively using the Search for Path, the webpages displaying information about LDPs (long distance paths, or walking trails) show lists of accommodation near the path. Using the Challenge Events, Walking Festivals and Group Walks listings, each walk's page shows any nearby accommodation. There are map display options in each case.

For the LDPs, Events and Group Walks pages, the lists of accommodation show the distance of each from the LDP or walk location (if any that we list is nearby), and for LDPs they are arranged in route order, from LDP start to finish. Accommodation is shown only when the event location or LDP route has been provided and added to the database.

For more general advice on Visitor Information, we cover other sources of accommodation listings, along with useful contacts such as TICs. In the UK, there is much more accommodation than we are able to list on this website, especially many other small b&bs, and also other campsites, who may not take online bookings or yet even appear online.

For help with planning your walking trip:

  • Feature articles on this website in our online Library section, such as the 'Practicals' series cover preparing for events and long walks.
  • LDWA members are often experienced and happy to pass on their knowledge and our LDWA events and group walks for members may be useful as preparation, to improve fitness, try out new gear, or test navigational skills, so why not Join.

If you are an accommodation provider not yet listed on this site, see our FAQ on Listing My Accommodation.
