Norma's walk 19th June 2013

Wed 19 June  2013                    Norma's  Midweek Special
Firstly, congratulations to Norma for  organising such lovely weather for her walk.  It was beautiful  sunny with a light cooling breeze on the hills, and a rare summer's  day in a cold and showery period!  There was a good turnout of 15 from  Bristol & West and Wiltshire Groups, perhaps  enticed by the prospect of tea and cakes to finish!

Norma led us in an anticlockwise loop,  south of Dursley, initially climbing up Stinchcombe Hill, around the golf course  to the first, of many, viewpoints.  We followed the Cotswold Way to North  Nibley and climbed up to the Tindale monument for a morning break.  We  continued up and down to the New Inn for lunch and a drink in the cool of the  terrace, sharing chips provided by Roger.  We left the pub to a steep climb  up a field and descent through the woods.  We had one further climb, up to  Cam Long Down, where we stopped for a break and to admire the views.  From  here, there was a descent straight into Dursley and through the town to assemble  in Norma's sister's garden.  Norma was house-sitting in order to feed the  cats and chickens and also planned on some horse-riding in the area.  The  walk was a relatively easy 15 miles, if that, and we arrived back at  3.35pm.

Now we had the main event of the day, tea  and cakes in the garden.  Norma provided toasted tea cakes, walnut cake,  chocolate cake with blackcurrants and lemon cake, washed down with tea and cold  drinks.  It was a most enjoyable way to end the day.  Thank  you Norma.   Bruce Young
