THIS IS THE WEB PAGE OF THE WILTSHIRE GROUP OF THE LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION The Wiltshire branch of the Long Distance Walkers Association is one of over 40 local groups situated around the country. We organise walks throughout Wiltshire and regularly venture into Gloucestershire and Somerset. The group in the South West of England is drawn from a catchment area with the BA12,BA13, BA14,BA15, SN & SP postcodes. Members of the LDWA are welcome to walk with our or any group. We are particularly pleased to see new members, make every effort to make them feel at home, and hopefully take an active part in the group. We have a programme of social walks which is published in Strider. Throughout the year we walk on the first Sunday of the month, starting at 9am prompt, and generally cover around 18 to 20 miles. We aim to finish between 4 and 5pm. From May until September we include a mid-month walk on either a Saturday or a Sunday that will stretch the boundaries of Wiltshire. We bring packed lunches although we stop near a pub at lunch time where we are able help the local economy. Our midweek walks take place on the third Thursday of every month and are between 12 and 16 miles. These walks start at 9.30am and we stop for a pub lunch. We have mid-morning and mid-afternoon coffee stops on all walks. We have occasional linear walks with a return journey by train and a have done a couple of mid-summer's day walks especially for insomniacs and Druids, to see the sunrise at Avebury. Weekends away have been in the Quantocks, Shropshire, Lynton, Snowdonia, the Yorkshire Dales, the South Downs, Hay-on-Wye, and most recently Bakewell in the Peak District. The group organises the annual Pewsey Downsaround Challenge in April which has distances of 35, 26, 16, and 10 miles. This is open to all. We hope to see you. Details of our week end walks are published in the LDWA's Strider magazine 3 times a year. Our walks at the week ends and on week days are here on the website. If you would like to join us, or would like any more information about our group there are details on the Contact Us page of this site. Any member of the LDWA can walk with the group and can if they wish elect to make Wiltshire the group of their choice.
