Long Distance Walkers Association - Local Groups

Westmorland and North Lancs

Our group on Fountains Fell, on a winter walk from Malham

Stop Press - Entry Forms For That's Lyth and Spring in Lakeland 2009 Now available on this Website - check out the details here.

Welcome to the Website for the Westmorland and North Lancs group of the Long Distance Walkers Association.

We are an informal, friendly, diverse group of friends who enjoy walking the spectacular countryside that Northern England provides.  We are extremely lucky to be based in such a beautiful part of the country, with the Lake District, The Forest of Bowland and North Lancashire,  the Yorkshire Dales and The Howgills all pretty much on our doorstep.

We meet at least once a month for social walks.  These walks, although quite long (normally close to twenty miles), are taken at a sociable pace and we have good fun and banter along the way.  We strive to make all visitors and newcomers welcome to the group.  Take a look at future events to see what 's planned for the months ahead, and come along and join us. Bring your packed lunch and flask and your usual walking eqiupment. Have a look at our Latest News section to see what we have been up to recently.

To join our group you need to be a member of the Long Distance Walker's Association, but if you are not sure  whether to join, come along as a visitor once or twice to see what you think of us.  We promise to make you welcome and look after you. If you are interested in joining our group you can email Ann Smith at ronanns@tiscali.co.uk

We also run a couple of challenge events each year.  These are about 25 miles each and include checkpoints along the way for food and drinks and a meal at the end.  Have a look at the challenge walks we organise, or have a wider look at the challenge walks run Nationaly by other LDWA groups.  There are plenty to choose from. If you don't fancy taking part, why not volunteer to help out on one of the checkpoints, we always appreciate a spare pair of hands.

Our flagship challenge events are That's Lyth and Spring in Lakeland, and we will run a new event in October 2008, called Water Yeat Affair.

We also hold occasional weekends away.  Look out for these - details will be posted on this website.

And finally, if you want to get in touch with us, have a look at our Committee Members page to see who are the 'powerful' ones - well none of us really but if you want a chat you can always try our group secretary - she is very approachable, but only before 9pm please.
