Welcome to the West Lancashire Group...

Formed over 45 years ago, our group has been thriving ever since. With a membership from a wide variety of backgrounds, we are a happy lot with good conversation and humour – even in the  rain. Every year we put on a balance of social walks and challenge walks. (see 'Walks Programme' for walk details).

Our walks are done at an accommodating pace and cater for members of varying abilities. If you are not a member and you have seen a walk you would like to do you will certainly be made welcome. All we ask is that you contact the walk leader (contact) beforehand so they know you will be joining the walk. After walking with us 3 times you will be expected to join the LDWA - just £15 pa when paid by direct debit. See details here.

We have a very varied long walks programme with walks ranging from 15 to 20 miles on Thursdays and at weekends. Many of these walks are listed in Strider.

Our social walks on Tuesdays are approximately 10 miles. These are held within easy driving distance of the Preston Area, which includes the West Pennine Moors, the Ribble Valley and the Bowland Hills. There are 3 or 4 of these every month. Our walks  are described in more detail on our ‘walks programme’ page.

Our leaders are very knowledgeable and experienced and know all the very best walks throughout the North West, so if you don't know where to walk then our walks programme will be an ideal starting point for you. And if you do then I am sure we can introduce you to new walks with great scenery and interest.

Dogs are allowed on most walks as long as they are kept on a short lead, but as they are not allowed on some walks dog owners MUST contact the walk leader first, to check if dogs are allowed.

Every year we walk a long distance path/route so we are in the process of deciding what we do next year. Past wlks can be seen in 'Group Activities'.

Every February we run a challenge eventthe Anglezarke Amble, which attracts entrants from all parts of the country and is always fully subscribed. The 2024 Amble was a great success. Photos can be seen 'here'

Every few months we have a group meeting which is held in the Sea View Inn, Preston Road (A6), Whittle-le-Woods, commencing at 7.30 pm. The nearest postcode is PR6 7HH (which takes you up the road a bit). The OS grid reference is SD 583 194 or you can see the location on Google Maps by clicking here.

Whilst we do all we can to make them a social occasion by having guest speakers and the like, there is always the opportunity for members to talk ‘shop’ or have a lively chat.

Our next meeting at the Sea View will be at 7pm. The date will be posted soon. If you can attend please let Karen know.  westlancs.secretary@ldwa.org.uk

Why not come and join us……if you’re a reasonably fit walker there’s sure to be something for you and what’s more……you will be made very welcome.
