Maybe the
realisation that Christmas shopping days were reducing in number happened, as only a small group of 4 arrived for South Pennine’s last walk before the festive season. Anne arrived with several flasks of filter coffee to start the walk, however with more coffee than could be drank, Glenn & Val borrowed a large flask to take with them. Down Calf Lane, onto the canal to Brownhills, up the lane, and up hill to the Church Inn, with the possibility of the white stuff falling, as we climbed higher up. On cue for our festive walk, down came the snow, and it was a white out all along the ridge to Pots & Pans, and on to Aldermans. As soon as we dropped height to Binn Green, it was another world –but for photographic evidence, no one would probably believe us. From there, on to Yeoman Hey and GreenfieldRes, with a coffee break by the stream, which was in full force, but none the less the challenge to stride across into the middle was accepted by Glenn ( who else!), back round the main res, and a quick break for lunch in the Sailing Clubhouse. Along Intake Lane, and the opportunity for anyone to drop out, but no-one did, as the route was spilt into a 13mile loop and then a 6 mile one, along the canal into top Mossley, up to the Pike,
Mossley Cross, and back along Quick Edge, to return to the start.
Everyone
enjoyed themselves, and although not a “challenging walk” (but surprisingly the
GPS clocked up 3500 ft of ascent ) it
was good to have a natter, and take in some fresh air.
