Chrome Axe (10/09/2011)

Thanks to John for his walk yesterday.  It isn't true that John doesn't do hills, well nearly all of them.!!

10 of us out and good to see Vanda & Paul, Jackie from High Peak, Janet from Vermuyden and Lewis (only 17 and walking on less than 2 hours sleep!!) with Kev, Colin, Duncan, John and myself from South Manchester.  Apart from a light shower as we left the tea stop we had a warm day with good views and plenty of lows and much undulation.  Who says the white peak is flat??  Did any one realise we passed very close to an aircraft wreck on Axe Edge?, a Mk1 Oxford that crashed in November 1944; the crew survived.  Also good to see a few bedraggled Grass of Parnassus (no not Quentin after his Greek trip) as we descended from Solomon's Temple.

The distance was measured at 22 miles with 4,475ft ascent and for many some new territory and new paths.  The views in the late afternoon were superb.  Thanks again to John.

Steve
