Minutes of South Manchester Local Group AGM

5th November 2011

 

1  The Chairman Quentin Blagg opened the meeting held at Bridget's home at7.58pmand welcomed and thanked members for attending.

2  Present were Quentin Blagg, Dave Gosling, Carl Harris, Bridget Knight, John Knight, Steve Osborne and Duncan Smith.

Apologies from Avril and David Allen, Kev Carrington, Don Price.

3  The minutes of the 2010 AGM were read and accepted.

4  Matters arising, Item 4:- Possible challenge walk no action been taken.

5  The Chairman reiterated his opening comments.  We are a small active group and have had a successful year with a good mixture of events and activities.  In particular the Easter trip to Northern Irelandorganised by John Knight had been both memorable and enjoyable.  Our breakfast check point on the Housman 100 Marshals’ walk, a long night and morning.  Duncanfor his check point duties on the Bullock Smithy Hike.

Numbers low on most of the activities although a large number of LDWA members live in theSouth Manchestercatchment area, currently 152 members.  We regularly attract members from other groups.  How do we attract more group participation, do we walk too quickly?  Have a pub stop in the middle of the day?  Need to grade the walks and give a finish time.  Thanks to all members for organising walks and social activities, especially to Bridget for hosting this AGM.  John for data input to the LDWA website and for the good job he has done with theSouth Manchesterwebsite, helped byDuncan’s photos, also Steve for his emails and secretary duties.

6  Before we went to the elections of officers Quentin stated that he intends to step down as chairman next year.

 All thanked for continuing in these positions and the good job they do.

7  Ask at the Local Groups meeting next weekend for clarification re the listing in Strider of our group activities.  Can members have access to old challenge walk routes?

8  Weardale at Easter; names to Duncan who will organise accommodation. Not helping as a group on the Games 100 next year although several members have registered for the event and also to help.  Our contribution to the 40th Anniversary of the LDWA is the Marsden to Edale (25 miles or 40km) - Saturday 22nd Sept. - badge and certificate required.  The 100 in 2013 is inDevon andCornwall and we will man a checkpoint.

9  AOB  Discussion about email addresses and telephone numbers being available in an open format to all members within the contact group, the secretary to get response from the members (again).

Planning meeting for the summer programme on Monday 9th January 2012 at Quentin’s house start7.30 pm.

Quentin and John will liaise withDuncanre a possible challenge walk.  The meeting closed at 8.59pm and was followed by chips and cake and drinks.
