his group is based in the north west of England are draws its members from a catchment area to the west of Wigan. Current members live in the Shevington, Standish and Upholland areas.

We run a regular programme of social walks which is published in Strider organised both by the Group and jointly with other LDWA groups and the Rambler's Association. In the past few years the core of our programme has been based on middle distance paths done in a number of stages and have included the North Cheshire Way, South Cheshire Way, Wakefield Way, Rotary Way(Bolton Boundary Walk) and sections of the Transpennine Trail. We expect to add the Warrington Boundary Walk in 2011.

We now run one challenge walk the Beacon Bash Event in Febuary, this regularly attracts over 100 walkers and runners. At Christmas time we run a 6/14 mile charity walk to raise funds for a number of medical charities. In September each year we also run a social walk in conjunction with events run by Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Prospective members of the LDWA are welcome to join any of the social walks for a trial period, but should be aware that walks are around 20 miles at a reasonable pace and that it is advisable to make contact with the leader beforehand to confirm details.
