About the ''Committee''

Teresa Walker - Group Secretary

During the group's AGM in York I was persuaded to be Minute Secretary, a new position replacing the post of General Secretary and just like Caroline I had to beat off fierce competition!
I have been a member of the LDWA for about 5 years taking part in a variety of social walks in the North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Wolds, Leeds area etc., I also regularly lead walks for the group.
Joining the LDWA was not the start of my walking career merely an extension of it. When I first came to live in Yorkshire I was in awe of the Dales and thought they were fantastic for walking. I had previously only seen them in Geography text books. My all time favourite walk is just over the border in Cumbria, the Mallerstang Marathon.
I look forward to meeting lots of you at the social walks.

Steph Carter - Walks Secretary

I joined the LDWA in April 2011 as an unusual  birthday gift from my wife, and it has become one of the best presents I have ever had. While I'm not a "veteran" long distance walker I've done a few long distance trails (starting with the Nidderdale Way), some group walks, and so enjoyed the Kilburn Kanter as my first challenge walk. I became walks secretary in January 2012.
I've lived in Wetherby for about 20 years although I'm originally from Hereford, and when I'm not walking I might be watching my beloved Hereford United.

Roger Wandless - Treasurer

An LDWA member since 1985 and with that I guess I'm "old school LDWA". I remember the days when your rice pud & peaches at checkpoints was served in recycled margarine tubs!!
I am a veteran of many challenge events and hopefully quite a few more to complete, but now is the time to be active on the other side of the fence, repayment for all those good walks enjoyed by me in the past but organised by others.
The LDWA has changed over the years but 3 things remain constant and are worthy to maintain, they are:- good walks, good company and a good badge!!
Omnia mutantur nos et mutamur in illis.

Simon Leck - Website

I joined the LDWA in 1998 after discovering a walk called the Kilburn Kanter in the walking bible “Moorland Challenge” by Tony Wimbush, which I picked up in a book clearance shop in Scarborough for £1 and had bought to find out information about the Lyke Wake Walk. Even though the book was out of date and the contact details for Derek Haller were incorrect, my entry somehow managed to find its way to Derek and so started my illustrious walking career.
Last year Caroline asked me about the Lyke Wake Walk and full of bravado I said it would be a piece of cake to put it on for the North Yorkshire group. Luckily Penny came to the rescue and baked lots of cakes otherwise we might have been eating Humble Pie on the Lyke Wake Walk rather than the lovely Rocky Road she made and so began my association with the North Yorkshire Group.
I have now been elected to the National Committee as Internet Officer and so it seemed fitting to become the webmaster for the North Yorkshire Group and experience the system from a user's point of view as well.

Caroline Roy

I've had a long (but hardly illustrious) career with the LDWA, joining in the early 90s.
Living in Morecambe at the time, my first full distance event was the late Derek Esmond's Silvarn Round which I completed in about 10 hours, plus blisters, plus tears, but for some reason I was left with an innate sense of well-being and achievement which has kept me going back for more ever since. Fortunately not so many blisters or tears these days, at least not that I'm going to admit to.
As well as walking with the LDWA, I love to climb mountains and will bore anyone's ears off about Scotland and Wales anytime you like.
