Marches LDWA

We are the Marches LDWA

Our members belong to the LDWA who live along the Welsh Marches and in the English Counties of Shropshire and Herefordshire.

Our group was founded in 1978 and we are proud in our history of having organised four of the annual "hundreds" that are the flagship events of the LDWA. These have been the Marchesman of 1990, The Shropshire of 1995, the Cant Canolbarth of 2007 and the Housman of May 2011.

The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm, all members welcome. Meetings are currently at the Red Barn Shrewsbury but may wander a little as the weather improves.. We offer four seasons of challenge walks. We are always seeking to expand our programme & warmly welcome suggestions for challenge or social walks from new or existing members. Keep an eye on our website for social walks & please feel free to volunteer your favourite local walk to share with others.

As always a different route to previous years requiring navigational skills.The route description will not be given out until the day without exception and will enable it to be plotted on OS Explorer 240

Corvedale Cake Walk
Saturday 24th April

Holdgate Church, Nr Much Wenlock, Shropshire TF13 6LW. Nearby parking will be well signed. Open 7.30am for hot drinks (bring a mug)

22 route. From Holdgate via tracks/fields to summit of Abdon Burf, traverse hill/valley to Clee St Margaret (CP 1), on to Munslow Park, up/over Wenlock Edge to Eaton (CP 2), back on to Wenlock Edge, Wilderhope & return to Holdgate.
10 route. From Holdgate to Abdon Burf summit, across to Clee St Margaret (CP) to Tugford then across fields/lanes returning to Holdgate

LDWA Walks

The LDWA organises many challenge events and local group social walks, as well as listing many more organised by other organisations. Challenge events are normally between 20 and 100 miles and must generally be completed within a defined time limit. Social walks are normally led walks of around 20 miles.
