If you look in our calendar, you will see some of the events organized by our group. Only members of the LDWA are automatically allowed to participate in our social walks but, by arrangement, we welcome visitors who are not members. As our name implies, we do cover substantial distances on our walks and we do maintain a brisk pace across country using footpaths that may not be as well maintained as we would hope. Payment By Cheques for E&H Challenge Events.  I have been advised by our bank that cheques should be made out as follows for all E/H events if they are not to be rejected - LDWA Essex/Herts Group.  Could everyone kindly do so in future.

Dogs on Walks: Subsequent to a recent LDWA Local Groups Meeting (Coalport - 18 Novenber 2012) attention was drawn to the fact that that Walk Leaders/Organisers were not covered under the LDWA Public Liability Insurance for any damage, accident or nuisance caused by dogs brought on social/organised walks by participants, LDWA or otherwise.  Walk leaders/organisers could, therefore, be held personally responsible for any damage, accident or nuisance caused by walkers dogs.  The Essex & Herts Group Committee has decided therefore to ban dogs, other than registered assistance dogs on walks, social or otherwise, in the interests of all concerned.

We understand the LDWA National Executive Committee will publish their recommendations regarding the issue in the April edition of the Strider

Martin Crawley:  Martin wishes to send greetings to all his friends in the Essex Herts Group.  He joined Essex Herts in 1980 and completed many Challenge Walks including 24 LDWA 100s.  Martin moved to Thailand and now lives with his wife Nan about 4 a hour bus ride fron Bangkok.  (see Martin Crawley in PhotoAlbum).
