Welcome to the THREE RINGS OF SHAP – we hope you enjoy your selected walk.

Registration is from 07.00 - 08.00 in Shap Memorial Hall (NY 564 151), which is also the Start/Finish point. Please park as directed.
START TIMES : Walkers & Runners 08.00 – 09.00
There will be a mass start at 08.00 for those who wish to start at this time.
(N.B. There are six stiles in the first kilometre of the Mosedale Ring)
Please note your checkpoint opening and closing times and arrange your start time appropriately for the speed at which you expect to walk or run.
Please also note that the checkpoint on Ring 2 has changed this year. It is at the Strickland Arms in Great Strickland (NY 558 229) and NOT the White Stuff barn – see Route Description.
N.B. If you choose to start after 08.00 you MUST REGISTER your start and receive a START TIME before leaving the Hall. You will be deemed to have started at 08.00 if you fail to do this.
Don’t forget to bring MUG, COMPASS, WHISTLE, TORCH, WATERPROOFS and MAPS
(Explorer OL5 & OL19, Landranger 90 & 91 or suitable alternative - N.B. OL5 or LR90 if doing Ring 1 only)
It would be appreciated if supporters would not visit checkpoints as car parking is virtually non-existent.
If you wish to reccy the route before the Event please find an alternative route avoiding any Private areas where permission is given for the Event Day only.
STOP PRESS : The steps either side of the quarry access road on Ring 3 (NY 586 136) are in poor condition. Please take care and avoid if necessary by using adjoining grass bank.
There will be some cows with calves in the vicinity of Gaythorne Hall approximately 19-20 km into Ring 3. Please be cautious and avoid close contact.
As dogs are not allowed on the Event it should not be a major problem.
RING 2 - para 13 : maintenance work is being carried out on the pylons so please note minor changes. The route description has been amended.

THREE RINGS OF SHAP
23.6.12 EVENT DETAILS & RULES
This is the eighth year for this 100Km. (62 miles) Challenge Walk for those who wish to complete
all three Rings (in order 1,2,3). In addition we are offering each Ring individually and three walks of two Rings:
Ring 1 18 miles
Ring 2 24 miles
Ring 3 20 miles
Rings 1&2 42 miles
Rings 1&3 38 miles
Rings 2&3 44 miles
(N.B. We reserve the right to withdraw any options that are insufficiently supported.)
Please note that each Ring will only have ONE manned checkpoint at approximately half
distance and will just provide cold drinks and simple food. More substantial fare will be on offer
at Event HQ throughout the event. Be prepared to carry your own supplies of food & drink if you want to supplement this provision.
Remember to bring a MUG as we are not providing them.
Walk HQ – SHAP Memorial Hall (NY 564 151). This is also the Start/Finish and site of
intermediate checkpoints. Personal effects can be left here during the event. We hope to be
able to offer showers again this year, if desired – albeit at the swimming club across the playing
field. There is a public Car Park next to the Hall but additional facilities are planned on the day – please park as instructed.
The Hall is sited centrally in Shap, which is just 2 miles from Junction 39 of the M6.
The nearest rail station is 10 miles away at Penrith with a bus link from Penrith bus station to Shap, currently at 07.30 (traveline 0870 6082608, www.traveline.org.uk).
There are several pubs and B&B’s in Shap (www.shapcumbria.co.uk or Penrith TIC 01768 867466, www.eden.gov.uk).
The Strickland Arms at Great Strickland will be the site of the midway checkpoint on Ring 2 this year.
They have some B & B accommodation, a Logyurt cabin and facilities for camping - see www.thestricklandarms.co.uk

Some floor space for sleeping at the Hall the night before the Event is available for a charge of £5 which includes a simple breakfast – please complete Entry Form appropriately and contact the Event Secretary if you require this.
