Welcome

2027 Jurassic 100

Cornwall and Devon will be hosting the Jurassic 100 from 29 - 31 May 2027. Entries opened on 12 October 2026 here on SIEntries.  After two weeks, over 92% of the available places have been booked ...

Volunteering:  there is an alternative.  For those people wanting to walk the 100 and willing to assist on the event, you can sign up for the Jurassic 100 Marshal's Event taking place 1 - 3 May 2027 (entries available on SIEntries from 1 November 2016).  Marshals might help with registration, transport, food preparation, first aid or might sweep a later part of the course.  (Marshals won't need to run checkpoints - Local Groups volunteers do that and we are in regular communication with them). Please read through the Helping on the Event pages - there's a lot of information there ...

If you do want to walk the Marshals 100, and you are willing to assist on the events, and you have completed a qualifier, then please fill out this (short) form or email help@jurassic100.co.uk.  The good news is that after the event, 50% of your fee will be reimbursed !

A list of qualifiers can be found here.  Checkout the route here,

And of course for those
wanting to be part of the Jurassic 100 but who just might not fancy walking 100 miles, you can just Marshal, and you can also attend social walks for some of the legs.

Cornwall & Devon Group

Cornwall & Devon are one of over 40 groups throughout the country that represent the Long Distance Walkers Association at local level.

Cornwall & Devon is one of the LDWA's more active groups: we offer maybe 20 social walks each year (usually 15 - 25 miles), typically three challenge walks (up to 30 mi), an annual 50 mile challenge event, and we regularly help at an LDWA annual 100 checkpoint.

You will find our Walks Programme on this website. Some are also published on our Meetup page, on the national LDWA website, and in the LDWA's national magazine Strider.

On social walks, the leader is in charge of the details of the walk, but, in general, the walk will usually start at 9:00 am, with a tea break at about 11:00 am, lunch by 13:15pm, and an afternoon tea break between 15:00/15:30 pm. Depending on pace, terrain and weather conditions, the walk will normally be finished by 17:00pm. (Sometimes we make slightly slower Walking At Slower Pace (WASP) walks available). If we can we try to ensure our walks are accessible by public transport.

All our walks are open to all LDWA members irrespective of where they reside. New walkers and Meetup members considering joining the LDWA may try two group walks before taking out membership.

We walk on Dartmoor National Park, Exmoor National Park, the South West Coastal Path, the AONB's of East Devon, Cornwall (including Bodmin Moor, the Camel Estuary, the Lizard & Rame Head), North Devon, the Tamar Valley, South Devon, the Isles of Scilly, and Blackdown Hills, and in Somerset, in the Quantocks.  Of course we also walk the hundreds of miles of Public Rights of Way and quiet lanes across the three counties.

Our first group walk was held on 23rd March 1980. Since then we have collectively walked hundreds of thousands of miles and are still going strong !

Challenge Events

We run Challenge Walks during the year, where entrants can test themselves mentally and physically, on routes via defined checkpoints within a specific maximum time limit. Challenge walks are more organised, provide food and refreshments, are chargeable, and are typically attended by well over 50 participants. There may be restrictions on persons under 18 years of age. They can be oversubscribed, so book early to avoid disappointment.

If you are a member and have helped out on any of our challenge events you . Download a Form from our Expense Claim Form page.

LDWA Membership Benefits

Individual UK membership is £18.00 via DD (or £25.50 Family).

Buying some gear?  Members get discounts from a range of different retailers. For example: Paramo 10%, Taunton Leisure 15%, Elite Mountain Supplies 20%, RunnersNeed 15%.

Walk Coordinators and Walk Leaders

We are actively trying to encourage more of our members to lead walks. We have three Walk Coordinators (contact details here). Our Walk Coordinators ensure that we have a full programme, and liaise with members thinking about leading a walk to choose a date, route, and to publish details across our various web pages. In all cases, the Walk Leader will ultimately be responsible for planning and recceing the route, break times, maximum number of walkers, and whether dogs will be allowed. On the day, the Walk Leader will ensure that the group follows the agreed route, walks at an appropriate pace for the group, and does so in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Previous Walks Database

The LDWA maintains a database of all walks since 2008.  You can access Cornwall & Devon's database of walks since 2008 here.
