Report of Alberts group Wander in Wensleydale

Albert's walk report from Saturday's club walk.

"We met at Leyburn Market Place on Saturday 8th May 2010 at 8.30am, 16 people turned up for the walk from various groups including Northumberland, West Yorkshire, South Pennine and an independant member from York and of course members from Cleveland Group.

The weather forecast had not been to good, however on the day the sun shone, with a cold north-east wind.  We set of doing the walk in reverse to that published in Strider, we made our way to Wensley, then along the river to Stoney Stoop Lane were we left the river to cross the dale to Thoralby.  A brisk pace was set with the wind at our back and everyone enjoying the sunshine and the dry underfoot conditions.

We lunched in Bainbridge where Brian Emmerson joined us after arriving from Leyburn by bus to do the second half of the walk. We were now walking into a strong headwind along the open pastures towards Castle Bolton where we had our final break of the day, sitting around a stone circle, out of the wind in the grounds of Castle Bolton.  We arrived back in Leyburn at 6.15pm, just within our suggested target time of 10hrs.  Everyone finished in good spirits, with the goodbyes all echoing "see in Scotland for the 100 in three weeks time".

Things of natural interest we saw along the route: Lots of Cowslip, bluebells, a jackdaw in and out of its nest, a kingfisher and what we thought was either a snipe or woodcock chick."
