A Barningham Trail
A BARNINGHAM TRAIL
On Saturday 12th May we met on the Village Green, Barningham for the first of our two May 2012 club walks, 13 Cleveland LDWA club members and 3 welcome visitors turned out. Considering the wet weather we had experienced during the past month this was a good attendance. We were rewarded with a cracking day, blue sky and sunshine all the way, as expected underfoot conditions were slightly damp at times, but no complaints.
Our first break for elevenses was on the lane side at Holgate Moor, lunch in the shooting hut just after St. Andrews Cross and our final break in the afternoon in a little glade bathed in sunshine in the Stang Forest.
We had good views all day especially from Hope Scar looking towards Teesdale, which had probably not been seen for more than 50 years as this section of Stang Forest had recently been cut down, opening up a panoramic views.
We arrived back in Barningham at around 4.15pm, having completed 20miles; unfortunately for some the local pub was closed.
