Minutes of 8.9.2011 Meeting

Minutes of meeting held on 8th September 2011

15 members present

Chairman: Not in attendance

Secretary: Suggested we book at the Fox and Hounds for Christmas lunch and this was agreed. The date will be Saturday 17th December 2011.

Treasurer: Alan gave an overview of the year’s activities. We made a profit on both the Tandem and Hanging Stone and overall we had a surplus for the year in spite of having made a substantial donation to Air Ambulance. Alan indicated he would not be standing for the post next year and gave his apologies for the AGM as he will be on holiday.

Quartermaster: Albert reported that the lock-up was now empty. He had some white plates to dispose of to any members at the meeting plus a couple of water bottles. Vince had reported that the church was delighted with the pie warmer which would also be used for warming up fish and chips. A list had been prepared saying which members were storing the various items we require for the Hanging Stone. Edith to write to Addison Liveries thanking them for allowing us to store the lock-up on their land. They have agreed to take it over, which saves us the cost of disposal.

Walk Secretary: Brian’s walk from Middleham had been well supported in good weather. The next walk was Albert’s on Saturday 10th and Dave’s from New Marske on 1st October.

Dave reported that he had four walks for the beginning of the next year ready to go to December Strider at the end of September.

Dave had been in contact with John Leeming who knew someone who would give a talk on the Rosedale Railway. It was agreed we would arrange this, possibly in January.

Hanging Stone: Eva reported that everything had gone well with this year’s event and thanked all helpers. There had been good feedback on the internet. Some people were doing it for the first time and mentioned it would be nice to have some savoury food on checkpoints, also coffee. This has been noted.

Next year’s event will be on 4th August, a week earlier than usual but a wedding has been booked at the Rugby Club for the following week. We agreed to keep the price as this year.

AOB. On one of their midweek walks, Albert and friends had visited Low Mill in Farndale. We have been here before and it is being renovated by a very dedicated man. It was suggested that we make a donation to this, maybe organise a walk passing through there and make the presentation to him. All members in attendance agreed this would be a worthy recipient of some of our spare money.

Terry Coupland wondered how old members were. He said unless we attract younger members he wonders how long we will continue. This seems to be a universal problem.

Meeting closed at 9.10pm.
