CHRISTMAS WALK & LUNCH - DEC 2011

Christmas 2011 Snow WalkersChristmas Lunch and walk.

22 people had booked for the lunch but only a hardy nine of us turned up for the walk.

We started at the Fox and Hounds and took the Cleveland Way up to Highcliffe. Since many of the trees have been cut down this is a much nicer walk with extensive views, but as we climbed it started to snow so we could see nothing. We dropped down from Highcliffe and took a good forest track passing what we believe to be an old powder house then dropped down to the edge of the forest and followed a  grassy path, to come out on the concrete road opposite the Cleveland Way sign.

We had various routes in mind, depending on conditions etc. but we were all strong walkers and well in time so decided to take the bridleway through Waterfall Farm and then the steep climb up to the top of the quarry on the Cleveland Way. All that was left was to drop down the steps to arrive back at the Fox and Hounds.

Dave, our Chairman, was unable to come this year but sent me an e-mail with his Christmas message, which I duly read out. The restaurant was fairly full so I think most people would not be able to hear me read out the “Christmas Cracker” jokes Dave sent.

Thanks to everyone who came and to Geoff for leading the walk. Happy New Year to all our members. How wonderful it is not to be checking the advanced forecast for possible bad weather and getting stressed about the Tandem!
