MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY MEETING

Minutes of meeting held on 10 February 2011

22 present

Chairman: Nothing to report.

Secretary: Reported that the claim against us from an entrant who had broken her leg had been dropped. This was expected but a relief to receive the news. The talk by Great North Air Ambulance would be at next month’s meeting, commencing at 8pm. Our usual meeting would follow.

Treasurer: Alan reported that finances were healthy with almost all Tandem bills paid.

Quartermaster: Equipment had been returned to lockup following Tandem and would be checked when the weather was more suitable.

Website: Paul reported that all walks were on up to September. The Hanging Stone entry form was on the site together with past results.

Walks Secretary: Albert reported on his walk from Kildale. 28 out including 6 visitors. 18 miles with 2,400 ft of ascent in seven hours. Drizzly weather at first but better later. Next walk is to be led by Ron from Birk Brow, starting at 8.30am.

The Langbaurgh Loop led by Alan will be on 19th March and will be supported by Carol, Tom, Geoff and Edith at Robin Hood’s Butts and Newton-under-Roseberry. Take own food for the day but hot drinks and extras will be provided.

Hanging Stone Leap is on 13th August 2011.

Tandem: Eva had contacted both accident victims. David Wolsley had a badly broken shin and had spent a couple of days in Scarborough Hospital following an operation but was now at home and progressing slowly. Steve, who dislocated his shoulder, may need an operation. Both slipped in the extremely icy conditions.

Although roads were clear enabling us to reach checkpoints, going underfoot for the walkers was extremely icy. Most of the last walkers were collected from Stape by minibus. As it was the last Tandem we did not want to disqualify anyone arriving late, but we were more than happy to provide a lift for the tailenders.

Despite the weather most things ran smoothly. Thanks to all the team for the hard work. After our third year of bad weather we all felt we had made the right decision to call it a day as far as the Tandem was concerned.

Meeting closed at 8.50pm.
