Alberts Kildale Walk Report
|
Alberts Kildale Walk Report for 22nd January 2011. c18miles. Once again we had a terrific turn out for our monthly LDWA social walk, 28 people met on a dull, damp day, our first social walk of the New Year. We had LDWA members from as far afield as Selby, York, Ripon, Northumberland, Durham and Scarborough as well as a strong contingent from Cleveland, including two new members and a promise from another walker to join LDWA. We set off at a brisk pace towards Percy Rigg were Albert reminded everyone that with such a large group it was inevitable we would have a mixed ability of walkers such as hardy hundreders and several recovering from injury. A sensible pace was then set; our first break was at Commondale, then onto Boxer Hall to cross the railway line and skirt below Castleton. Next a pleasant walk across Westerdale Moor with an occasional glimpse of blue sky to arrive at Hograh Moor for lunch in a mini quarry. We dropped into Baysdale then climbed out to pass the landmark chimney at Warren Farm. When we reached the lane for our final descent back to Kildale four of the group expressed a wish to jog down the hill to Kildale, off they went with our blessing. We regrouped at Kildale Hall to say our goodbyes. Thanks to Terry, Dave and Alan who did the back marking, we often glanced back to see Alan’s fluorescent green hat bobbing along at the back, which was very re-assuring. Albert Bowes 23/1/2011 |
