Gamlingay Cinques and Nigel sends us on our way.

8 miles to Northill Village Hall led by Gill B and Jackie – breakfast of “Bacon Butties and More” – wonderful – oops forgot fluorescent tabards and flash don’t mix. Terry joined us here having walked from Shefford.

13.6 miles to Ampthill led by Dee – a stop by the old railway tunnel at Old Warden – some went to explore – Shefford Steve has been to raves in the tunnel.  Welcome extra water points from Brian H and Norman, helped by Alan who had to drop out on this section. “Pasta meal plus pud” doesn’t do justice to the fantastic meal waiting for us in Ampthill prepared and served by Kathy and her team. Here too was the wonderful celebration cake – but we were too full to eat it  so it was cut, slices individually wrapped and brought on for us to enjoy at the Eversholt water stop.

Ampthill to Woburn 10 miles led again by Dee for “homemade cakes and other more boring things” – salmon and cucumber sandwiches, cheese and tomato sandwiches and delicious cakes.

The final 8½ miles led by Dave F-H – who had already completed the 50 mile Wenlock Olympian this weekend. Torches on in Stockgrove Park - Merrian walked to meet us - and then the final mile or so along the canal to the finish where Nigel was waiting with our certificates. 

We think we missed seeing one BBN bench – but all the others were put to good use!

We were joined by 4 Irregulars - prepared to enjoy themselves anytime anywhere in Beds!

25 completed the GRW – walking 1,000 miles! – 5 others completed various sections.

As someone said “Normal people do this in two days” – so well done to all us odd people – and a massive thank you to Nigel for all the organisation, to all his helpers and leaders, especially Dee who led us for well over half the day, and to Roy who backmarked the entire walk.  And  what a bonus - there was water waiting for us at almost every road crossing! Thank you  Norman, Brian and Alan.
